The Classic and Artisan products are Tilt-Head mixers. These stand mixers have a smaller capacity (3.5 – 5 quart) with a smaller motor so can accommodate a Tilt-Head. The Professional products are Bowl-Lift mixers. The larger capacity (5-6 quart) and greater motor power (325-745 watts) of the Bowl-Lift mixer makes it more suitable for baking large quantities of stiff batter or dough (> 5 loaves bread).
The Professional KitchenAid series has the largest capacity of 5-6 quart. Most of the Artisan range has a capacity of 5 quart, except the smaller and lighter Artisan Mini which has a 3.5 quart capacity. Generally, the Classic range offers the smallest capacity at 4.5 quart. Capacity is only one element to consider when deciding which of the stand mixers will be best for you. We can help you choose your ideal KitchenAid mixer size by asking you a few short and simple questions about your general baking habits.
